Feeling an Emotion Versus BEING an Emotion

How can we use our emotions, feelings and thoughts to inform our lives rather than run our lives? When we can observe them rather than BE them, we are able to stay connected to our emotions without feeling powerless to them. Meditation and mindfulness help us cultivate this safe space between them and immediate commentary and/or acting on them.
